Published quarterly by the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the AMERICAN SCHOLAR is a literary and general interest journal whose primary agenda is to further the genre of the essay.  Since 1932, it has served as a showcase for America's leading essayists, poets, and reviewers including Albert Einstein, John Updike, Rita Dove, Saul Bellow, Paul Muldoon, Margaret Mead and Robert Frost.  In recent years, the AMERICAN SCHOLAR has won numerous National Magazine, Utne Reader and American Society of Magazine Editor Awards.
